Wrapping it up · Dec 30, 06:33 AM by Dave Polaschek
Well, I guess I am going to post once more in 2005.
Last night was pretty fun. The Usual Suspects and I met for the beer release at Town Hall, and had a decent time talking and such. And we wrapped it up early, which was just as well, since it started snowing not too long after I got home, and gave the world that much brighter look it gets in the city when all the street lights are reflecting off a new blanket of snow.
The day yesterday was not so productive. The websites are not all updated, and I’m not sure whether I’ll get to them today or not. I suspect my clients are going to start getting impatient with me soon. But perhaps a burst of energy will follow the removal of the snow this morning.
But I’m about ready to go back to work. Between trying to tackle some projects around home, and people having many things scheduled for me, I’m running out of gas. I enjoy holiday parties and all, but because I’m friends with many disparate groups, nearly every evening had some sort of gathering that I felt obligated to attend.
And perhaps it’s my expectations, or perhaps it’s my fondness for John Barleycorn, but these are all draining. I wouldn’t mind meeting “that someone special” one of these days, and I keep hoping it might happen at one of these holiday gatherings. At a minimum, I try and get myself into a good mood so I don’t bring down the party and am receptive when meeting new people. And that takes energy, especially for someone who’s as much of a hermit as I am. But I burn even more energy when I don’t meet anyone, get mildly depressed, and drink too much before coming home to sleep it off and try it all again for the next party. That was one of the nice things last night. No expectations other than hanging out with some guys and having a few beers. And an early end to the night.
But hey, there’s a new coating of snow out there making everything white, and it ain’t gonna shovel itself. Time to climb out of the cave and get on with the day, at least for a couple more days before I fall back into the go to work, come home, hibernate cycle again for the rest of the cold dark winter.
