pouring frickin' rain?!? · Jan 3, 10:52 PM by Dave Polaschek
Okay, today’s a light update. There’s just this rant that I’m not even sure many people bother to click through to, but dangit, I got home and it was pouring outside.
There’s six inches of water standing in the alley. My backyard would be turning into a swamp if the ground weren’t frozen solid. The snow that I thought was going to blanket all the plants that are supposed to survive this winter is visibly eroding.
I know that part of living in Minnesota is being willing and able to bitch about the weather, and frequently we’ve got good cause, but this is just absurd. It’s early January, and the high temperatures have been in the 30s for a week. That was dragging on me, mostly because of the continual fog, but this evening, I’m ready to snap. Rain?!? And not just the drizzle we’ve had the past day or two, but what would be called a “good soaker” if it happened in the summer. This just isn’t right.
And the real beauty of it is that it’s supposed to switch over to ice by early morning, and then once everything is nice and coated with ice, there’s supposed to be snow on the way. I’m almost hoping the weather service has completely botched the call on this and it’ll just keep raining.
Then again, if there’s ice and then snow, maybe I’ll be able to call in for the first snow day of 2006. It’s about time, isn’t it?
