This is just a list of things I'd do differently if I was thinking more clearly. They're not necessarily mistakes I made, but just a list of ways I'd improve the experience, or stuff I wish I'd done.
- Eat at Abrakebabra once. I know that the kebabs are called Ringstingers by the locals, but I'd still have liked to try it at least once, just as I recommend that folks who come to Minnesota try White Castle hamburgers at least once. It's not necessarily a pleasant experience, but I think it's one that people should try at least once.
- Buy a five-day (or shorter) rail-pass. Our rail-passes got stamped so little that I returned home with six days unused on the ten-day pass. More on this in Dave's Travel Tips
- Ask more pubtenders for souvenirs. Most of them were happy to give me small free things (like lighters or match-books), and these make cheap reminders of the places we ended up drinking, which can be especially handy if you're doing a pub-crawl, since the odds of remembering all the places is pretty slim.
- Ask for a room on the even-numbered side of the Copthorne Tara. The odd numbered side of the hotel (at least on the first floor where we stayed) is right next to the Tube (which is above ground at that point) tracks, and the trains run from 5am to midnight. The hotel is very convenient to the Tube station, but the price is that you not only have the rumble of the trains (which isn't very loud), but the flashes from the train arcing on the third rail were bright enough that they lit the ceiling of the room in spite of us closing the drapes.
