On the weekend of July 1 and 2, 2005, we packed up the gang and headed down to Sioux Falls to watch the Saints play. These are the pictures from that weekend.

One of the highlights of the first night was a contest for a year’s supply of honey-baked hams. Three gals were invited onto the field, to see who could do the best pig impersonation, the winner to get the ham. Among them was Shannon, one of our gang (seen here, sporting the red “Saints” shirt), whose impression of a pig was a belch, followed by a comment Honey, get me another beer!
all done while holding a giant can of Colt 45 Malt Liquor. For some reason, she won. Sorry for the blur in the picture, but it’s the best of the three or four I shot of the contest.

Later in the game, the “kids” got to go out on the field to dance to YMCA. Among the kids were Nate and Alex. Nate, it should be pointed out, is twenty-two. They had fun dancing, and I tried to capture the excitement with my digital camera, but had the problem of laughing so hard that nearly everything was jiggly and blurry. Sorry about that, guys.

| That’s a lot of ham |

After the game, a couple golf-carts came zooming out to my truck, parked near the A-Pole. Not only do the Canaries have free parking, but if you “need assistance” getting to or from your car, they’ll zoom you around in a golf cart. Having won a dozen hams and having drunk more than a couple Colt 45s, Shannon apparently qualified. After discussing the problem of how to keep the hams fresh long enough to get them back to St. Paul, it was decided that the hotel where most of the gang was staying would probably provide cooler-space, so their shuttle-bus was called, and I cleaned the leakage from my folding chairs.

Saturday night, I took a couple more pictures. Got a shot of Cagey, the Canaries mascot, and a view of the field from where we were sitting. The Birdcage is a nice little park, and unlike Midway, the seats are closer to field-level, but spaced somewhat farther back. I liked the slightly different view, I think, and the seats there are big enough, and the rows spaced far enough apart, that even my fat ass had room during the game.
Thanks again to John, Greg, and Schwab for helping us have such a darned good time down in Sioux Falls. And sorry we missed Tom. See you guys in St. Paul this weekend!
