27. September, 2008 - Busy Weekend

Lots to do this weekend, but there’s a bonus: I got part of yesterday and Monday morning off from work.

We had a team lunch yesterday at Fogo de Chão. Knowing that I’d probably eat too much, I didn’t drive downtown, and planned on walking home afterwards to work off some of the food-coma. So after the meat-orgy had concluded, I caught a ride with one of my cow-orkers across the river, and then walked along the river.

My first stop was Water Power Park. I feel a little bad that I haven’t been there before now, given how hard I worked for the neighborhood association to see that it happened, but I walked out to the east end of St. Anthony Falls, and sure enough, the views were as nice as I’d hoped. The two panoramas you see here are the result. They’re not great, since I only had my iPhone and not a real camera, but they’re better than nothing.

Deer in Father Hennepin Park

After leaving the park and continuing to walk downriver, I noticed a deer in Father Hennepin Park. According to a gal who was out walking her dog, the deer has been hanging out in the park for the past two weeks. It seemed pretty calm, in spite of all the people around.

That was about it for the nice part of the walk. The weather had turned steamy, and there really isn’t much more scenery on the way home from there. When I got home, I was hot and tired, and still feeling like a snake that had swallowed a bowling ball. After a couple hours, I just called it a day and went to bed to sleep it all off.

All in all, it turned out to be a pretty excellent day. I need more like that.
