As promised, I didn’t do much anything yesterday after getting home from breakfast. There was lunch, some reading, a nap, and then dinner and a few beers. It was a darned good day, even if I now feel as though I should have been more productive. That’s okay, I guess. There’s plenty to do today, and I don’t think I’ll have a chance to be bored.
- On one of the few days when I absolutely have to go out driving, there’s a Freezing rain advisory out for Twin Cities which switches over to a Winter Storm Warning up around mom’s. Sheesh. And at a time of year when a foot of snow wouldn’t be all that weird, it’s not only going to be warm enough to rain, it’s going to be warm enough to melt it later in the day, with a high in the mid-40s forecast. Well, nothing for it but to leave early, and hope there’s enough traffic that I’ll be able to spot the slippery bits by looking at other people in the ditch. [strib]
- Think Secret says Apple to drop sub-$500 Mac bomb at Expo, announcing a bare-bones, couple-year-old technology box to draw in the folks who buy cheap intel boxes based on price. I dunno. SJ’s keynote isn’t until January 11th, so there’s plenty of time to wait and see. Scott’s waiting to see, as well. [slashdot]

- Here’s a good example of why the PATRIOT Act and its ilk are problems: New York Gang Member Faces Trial as Terrorist. Okay. He’s a gang member, and quite possibly human scum. But to call him a terrorist? It’s the same sort of overreaching that was used with RICO, with the same problems that hate crime legislation has. Sadly, it’s something government will do whenever we let them get away with it. [kim]
- In a move that’s a couple years late, the C.I.A. Deputy for Analysis Is Being Removed. She’s the one who headed up the group saying there were weapons of mass desctruction in Iraq, and that group has been criticized for spending more time reporting to politicians than actually doing analysis.
