Well, I find myself writing this as I get home from the bar, early on the morn of Christmas Eve. It was a fun evening, and I’m glad Bill brought Ryan along for drinks. I had a fun evening, would gladly do it again, and I’m pretty sure that’s not just the likker talking.
Today looked scary from a distance, but as I get closer to it, I’m much less afraid. The big social obligation is the evening with the cousins, and what the hell, they’re related to me, so they have to put up with me, right? I’m actually looking forward to it, though. They’re good folks, even if we don’t see eye to eye, and since we’re family, we all have to be tolerant of the differences we have, right? And since we’re all Polish, we all have to realize that the other guy’s a hardhead, and we have to be really tolerant.
In any case, I think this will be a good day, as will tomorrow. I only have to deal with family, and we’re all pretty tolerant of each other’s foibles. We’re not the closest family, but it’s Christmas, so we’ll get along. There’s a few grumpy links after this, but take the commentary with a grain of salt. I’m in a good mood, no matter what it sounds like.
- The DC council caved. The Expos’ move to D.C. back on track as the City Council reversed a previous vote and revised the financing for a new ball park, giving in to MLB. Now DC could end up picking up the whole $435 million tab for a new ballpark, instead of just half. [fark!]
- Scott McGerik has some thoughts on Conversations and Technology, specifically cell-phones. Steve Gigl, filling in for Mitch, has his own comments. The most interesting bit to me is in the comments on that post, where Dave in Pgh. points out the rudeness that a lot of people exhibit with cell-phones. I’m with Dave in thinking that you deal with the person you’re face-to-face with first, and then worry about the phone, whether it’s a cell or a landline. It’s not about technology, it’s about politeness. [mitch]
- Finally, you may have heard about the attack on a mess tent in Mosul on Tuesday. What you may have missed is the fact that the terrorists then intentionally attacked the triage area and the hospital where the wounded had been taken. Attacking hospitals just ain’t cricket, and I think it’s time our soldiers and marines took off the gloves. If the other side ain’t gonna to play by the rules, Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war! I just hope that Walter and Adam came out of the attack okay. It was their unit that got hit. Merry Christmas, God Bless, and keep your powder dry, boys. [instapundit]
