- IBM pushes to 2GHz with PowerPC chips. Huh! But not until late 2002. When I was working at ETA Systems back in 1983, we thought an 8 nSec clock (125MHz) was plenty fast. A half-nanosecond clock in a personal computer is pretty stunning.
- The OmniCluster SlotServer sounds reasonably cool. A complete x86 server on a card. Just drop it into a box and you've suddenly got two servers instead. of one.
- The Social Security Number Misuse Prevention Act of 2001 (S. 848) has been introduced, and Would Ban Sale Of Social Security Numbers. It's a lot weaker than earlier versions, since it would still allow the credit reporting agencies to continue to use your SSN to track you.
